Cingular has announced the new 8525 smartphone, based on the HTC Hermes reference design, marking the introduction of the first UMTS/HSDPA enabled PDA phone in North America. The evolution of Cingular's 8125, the 8525 is a powerful device with a slide out QWERTY keypad.
The Cingular 8525 runs Windows Mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack which, coupled with the device's high-speed data compatibility, makes for a great messaging device. Connectivity options are abundant in the 8525, with Bluetooth 2.0 and 802.11g WiFi, on top of the stalwart Infrared port. A 2.0 megapixel digital camera is also included, which is quite an accomplishment for a very business centric device.
As well as all the business features that accompany Windows Mobile, the Cingular 8525 will ship with TeleNav GPS Navigator, a first for Cingular. TeleNav will allow full turn-by-turn voice and on screen navigation right on the device.
The Cingular 8525 will be available in Cingular retail locations, from Cingular's B2B sales team, or online from the company's website starting November 16 for US$399.99 with a two-year service agreement.
